Oxegen V Electric Picnic, FIGHT!

So with the line ups announced for both Oxegen and Electric Picnic 2009 we thought here at EC it was about time we took a look at what the two biggest music festivals have to offer for dance and electronic music fans this year. (Forgive us if we miss any acts below we are human after all).

Oxegen

So far Oxegen is pretty lightweight this year with M83, Digitalism, Pendulum, Tiga, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, 2 Many DJ's, Dreadzone, La Roux, Tom Middleton, and Swedish House Mafia announced so far. There is a real lack of headline electro acts which is disappointing after last years festival played host to Justice, MSTRKRFT, Aphex Twin, Groove Armada, The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers to name but a few. It seems that electronic music has taken a back seat for now. However one of the big attractions is the dance arena which year after year serves as the perfect venue for dance music, especially if it rains. There are a few ones to watch particularly Pendulum, were mind blowing at Oxegen 08 and Digitalism, one of the major highlights of Electric Picnic last year. We shall just have to wait and see what other acts they announce closer to the festival it is early days after all.

Electric Picnic

So following Wednesday’s line up announcement for Electric Picnic, you have to be reasonably impressed with Orbital, Basement Jaxx, MGMT, 2 Many DJs, Zero 7, Erol Alkan, Moderat, Four Tet, Magnetic Man (Skream & Benga), Simian Mobile Disco, Halfset and Noze all set to play. However it is unclear so far whether Bodytonic will be taking any part this year (perhaps someone can clear this up). Last year was a success for music, Modeselektor and Diplo were irresistibly magnificent but the decision by EP to place their tents in the middle of a campsite away from the main arena area was a complete joke! Hopefully they will be back this year and be in a more accessible location within the main area. Another thing to look out for is the all night rave in the forest between campsites which is organised by the EP and it is supposed to excellent.

Overall there are real nuggets of gold at both festivals but EP probably shades it for now anyway, you can’t really argue with some of the acts they announced. Whether you are going purely for the electro or not, everyone has to agree it is an essential part of any quality festival, let’s just hope that both decide to add quality dance and electronic acts before they begin in the summer.

What acts would you like to see play at this years festivals?

Houses and cars are expensive and not everybody can buy it. However, credit loans was invented to aid different people in such kind of cases.
