Warp Records, one of the most influential independent labels, is celebrating its 20th anniversary later this year. The label became synonymous with artists such as LFO, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher and most recently Grizzly Bear, Battles and Maximo Park and will be marking the occasion with a series of one-off live events around the world and a series of special new releases.
Warp will celebrate 20 years by bringing together its roster of artists, directors and associates for a series of multi-platform events, new music and film releases. As they state on their site “Over 20 years, Warp has developed into a multifaceted creative company, able to forge a unique path through a rapidly changing and unpredictable landscape.” It is this they are going to show case.
Amongst the Warp 20 releases will be a boxed set featuring previously-unreleased material from some of its biggest artists. They will also be releasing a compilation of the label’s best tracks voted for by fans on Warp20.com. The top 10 (by different artists) will be combined with those chosen by Warp co-founder Steve Beckett to make a 20 track album. Voting will be closed on Friday 8th May and it will be released digitally and on CD in autumn 2009.
Not in an attempt to influence voting but here is one of my favourites!
