Electronica pioneers Orbital, have announced that they will reform to headline UK festival The Big Chill in 2009. The Hartnoll brothers split in 2004 after a 15 year career in which they established themselves as one of the most influential acts in dance music history. In particular Orbital took live dance music to new levels by introducing an improvisational element to live electronic music with spontaneity and experimentation a plenty.
The announcement is a timely one as their 20th anniversary looms. Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll is quick to point out on their website that “It’s not an exercise in nostalgia, the time just seems right” adding, “Everything just seemed to fall into place. I’ve played at the Big Chill before, I DJed there and had a really good time - it’s an amazing festival. The timing is also good: 20 years of being together”. The other half of the duo, Paul Hartnoll was upbeat about the announcement pointing out that they have “15 years of active service, making songs” and “If you boil that down to a 90-minute festival set you should get something thoroughly exciting from beginning to end. Let’s put some fun back into it.”
As of yet there are no other confirmed live dates but hopefully the will take a trip across the Irish Sea in the summer. The Big Chill takes place 7th – 9th August 2009, and tickets on sale 1st Dec 2008.
