It seems I only ever write about remixes on here but this is an idea I’ve had for quite some time. It’s fairly simple really, a great deal of the music I listen to tends to be remixes, so every few weeks I hope to post some of my favourite remixes I come across while trawling through the internet. Seen as this is the first instalment I thought it best to go through some of the remixes I have been listening to in the past few months first, so enjoy!

The Black Ghosts – Repetition Kills You (RAC Remix)
The Black Ghosts are Simian’s Simon Lord and The Wiseguys’ Theo Keating. The track is from the single of the same name and features vocals from Damon Albarn. The original is far more electro pop based while the RAC (Remix Artists Collective’s) mix is funkier, catchier and more cheerful. I haven’t been able to get this tune out of my head since I heard it last week!

MSTRKRFT - Bounce (A-Trak Remix)
It is strange to see someone remixing MSTRKRFT, who themselves are masters of the art, none the less this is a really good mix. A-Trak is a Montreal based DJ who won the DMCs World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of just 15, so it’s unsurprising there is some scratching on this one. He has softened the edge of the original and created a very danceable party tune which is reminiscent of various mid 90’s dance tunes.

ZZT - The Worm (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)
ZZT is a Collaboration and possible future project between Tiga and Zombie Nation. There is not much info about them but this rework by Erol Alkan is like most or his work, Excellent. It is more of a rework rather than a complete remix as the title suggests but includes more bass and extended grooves.

Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor (Shake A Fist Diplo Mix)
I really like the original Hot Chip track and I equally like this Diplo mix where he has brought his exemplary mash-up DJ skills to the fore. The track is much less intense and given more of a party feel to it with various new beats and samples being introduced all over the place.

Alter Ego - Fuckingham Palace (Modeselektor Remix)
This is not really a new remix as it was released on Alter Ego’s ‘Why Not? in 2007. I have just recently discovered it as a result of becoming a really big Modeselektor fan this year. The track is in essence the same as the original but with extra dub and bass beats in trademark Modeselektor style.

Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the name of (SebastiAn Mix)
While there is much confusion surrounding this tune to the best of my knowledge it was mixed as part of a live set by SebastiAn in Milan last year. One thing for definite is that its one of my favourite remixes of all time. The beats are fantastic and whilst it is a tune not many would think of remixing for the belief it might not work, but it works wonderfully. I get the feeling, however that diehard RATM fans would not be so keen.
