Dancepig talks to the Dublin Event Guide from the current edition

Q: Hey Dara, How you doing how is life in Berlin.

Well it's disappearing minute by minute you know so getting to terms
with the day to day task of grabbing life by the scruff of the neck is
one thing and pointing it in the direction of substance is another.
I've learned a few tricks.

Q: Where did the name Dancepig come from ?

It came from my passion for dance music that I'd equate with my
passion for food. I wanted to cook up dance music and serve it up for
people to pig out on. “Sick and all as that sounds”.

Q: You have started work on your new album, how is that going. Who is working on it with you.

I'm co-producing a Dancepig album with David Carretta which will be
released on Space Factory next year. It's early stages so at the
moment I'm foraging through my catalogue for the best tunes that
rarely saw the light of day and preparing them for modernisation.
Tunes like “Famous”, “Best You've Ever Had” and “The Minge”.

Q: I believe you have also done a track with Tensnake for his forth coming
album how did that come about.

I'm a fan of Tensnake's productions and Mirau Records. Thanks to Maik
at Mirau we exchanged some music and ideas and eventually it
accumulated with me writing lyrics and singing on a track for his
upcoming album. It sounds great, if I can say that, and I'm really
excited about it.

Q: Tell us a bit about your new band, how many are involved will it go live.

I've written a wealth of vocal heavy material recently that I wanted
to perform without just pushing play on a backing track so the band is
coming together in Berlin, and hopefully with a bit more practice
we'll be on a stage near you soon.

Q:You released "Beneath Me EP what has the reaction been like.

It's been great, the proper promotion for it has only begun now but I
think most of the 12 inches sold out quickly. It's still available to
buy online as an mp3 download of course. I just hope it encourages
people to take a proper look through their puke tinted glasses.

Q: What can Dublin expect from your new show.

There's some new samples patterning some of the tracks that I wonder
if people will recognise. Stuff from the The Who, Elvis Costello and
The Pogues. New Dancepig originals and some re-worked older Dancepig
stuff too. The sound will be deeper, euphoric and sonically
interesting for the laymen. Plus bang, bang.

Q: Last time you played The Underground, the crowd where singing your tunes
back to you by the end, that must have been a amazing feeling.

Yeah I love playing for “One Track Presents”, it was one of the only gigs
I've played off the sup and I nearly had a panic attack looking out on
all those beautiful people singing my songs. The atmosphere in
Kennedy's is great, it's like looking out on a bait-ball. It was
frightening magic.

Q:You played The Electric Picnic recently how did that go.

It couldn't have been better. The 515 boys really pulled out all the
stops this year. Loads of great people and a perfect happy atmosphere.
I'd love to re-live it but we might just go ahead and try to better it
on the 27th.

Dancepig plays at The Underground, Kennedys Sep 27th
