Resistance is hosting it’s 2008 Summer Party at Electric Avenue on Bank Holiday Sunday 3 August, with a 3 room extravaganza featuring 12 DJs and 6 hours of top notch house, techno and electro music. Headlining the event is dance music legend Derrick Carter who returns to Waterford after a gap of 4 years to play a 3 hour set in Electric Avenue’s main room. The irrepressible Mr C will bring his Superfreq tech-house/electro sound upto the Loft for an upfront in your face blast of clubbing madness such as he generates in clubs like DC10 (Ibiza), The End (London) and Made (New York). And last but not least, Ireland’s favourite party DJ Billy Scurry will be leading a glamorous house/soul/disco party out in Waterford’s only al fresco dancing spot, the Electric Avenue Terrace. Support in all rooms comes from the cream of Waterford’s DJ talent with Gavin & Mac (Republik), Niall Power (Electric Circus), Alan Harris (Retech), Bernie Bop (Club Fiction), The Ibiza Collective and Shane Maher, all contributing to what should be the clubbing event of the summer. Tickets are on sale now at BPM Records and through Ticketmaster (0818-719300, http://www.ticketmaster.ie )

Derrick Carter is widely acknowledged as one of the best DJs in the world. In Mixmag’s recent 25th anniversary issue, he was the highest ranked house music DJ of the last 25 years. With innovative productions, flawless technical skills and an effortlessly joyful attitude of rocking a crowd, his influence has infiltrated right throughout the broad spectrum of dance music. During his teens Chicago's house scene sucked Derrick in for good and before long he became a strong presence in the city's underground dance scene. In 1988 Derrick, fellow DJ Mark Farina, and friend Chris Nazuka released an EP as the group Symbols & Instruments. The record had a strong influence on the burgeoning ambient techno movement in England and it established Derrick as an international figure in the underground dance-music scene. of the time. Since then his pioneering, innovative tracks and consequent critical acclaim have marked Derrick out as one of the most important players in dance music - most notably through his releases on Classic, the label he founded with Luke Solomon. Derrick's first release was as Rednail with 'I Think of You', followed by 'Nu Pschidt' and 'Hope' under his own name. On 'Dreaming Again' he cast his own low, sexy drawl over the trademark Carter grooves to form 'Boompty Boomp Theme' - a name which has become synonymous with Derrick's sound since his mom's critique of his music reached the press! Seminal EPs such as 'Where U At?' and albums 'Squaredancing In A Round House', alongside guest compilations for the best underground house labels have consolidated his standing as one of the legends of house music. After a 4 year gap, he is busting to get back to Waterford where he has played many memorable sets over the last decade at venues like the Metropole, South and The Forum. To bring him to an intimate space like Electric Avenue is a real coup for Resistance and should generate an amazing atmosphere. See you on the dance-floor !

No one can describe one of the most important figures in the UK dance scene better than himself. Take it away Richard West (aka Mr C)…..”I'm a Capricorn, a Snake, old enough to know better, but young enough to get away with it......what can one do? I got into partying at an early age & knew this would be my lifetime’s field of work. I started MCing & rapping when I was 16 and I made my first deep house tune in 1987 with evil Eddie Richards. From there I started spinning VINYL which is still my one true passion today. I started promoting underground house music parties in London in early 1988 and these have included Fantasy (88), Base (89), Release (91), Harmony (92), The Drop (93), Vapourspace (94), Subterrain (95-2002) and Superfreq (2002-present). I spin cutting edge, trippy, sexy, stripped back, electronic, tech-house. I also became a pop star with The Shamen in 1991 and I opened The End Club & End Recordings in London with my partner Layo. I launched Superfreq Records with partner Luke VB in 2005 and Superfreq parties have been jumping for 5 years now & currently run on the last Sunday of every month at The End / AKA in London. Superfreq has also had 5 great seasons at DC10 in Ibiza where it became the best underground dance music club on the island. I like laughing. I like hugs and I like being silly. Looking forward to meeting you all on 3 August in the Loft !!

He is, officially, Waterford favourite DJ and he is viewed by his peers as "a brilliant selector of innovative music, an excellent mixer and probably the most versatile and talented DJ this country has ever produced", Billy Scurry is not just Waterford’s favourite DJ, he is the nation’s favourite DJ. Having emerged from Dublin’s house and techno scene of the 90s with his residency at the legendary Sides, he is renowned for his floor shaking dance floor rhythms with increasing world music influences. His Terrace set at Electric Avenue last year was one of the highlights of the Summer and do you know what...he says he’s going to be even better this time. Happy Days !
